Risk Management Essentials introduces new construction professionals to the real-world risks that shape project success. Through practical, industry-relevant topics, participants gain foundational knowledge that builds confidence, reduces costly mistakes, and strengthens decision-making on every jobsite.

This class will cover the following topics:

Contracts 101 - Presented by Cindy Karm, Cutler Smith, P.C.
Participants will receive a straightforward introduction to construction contract fundamentals, including how contract language can protect a company (or create unexpected risk) on a project. This session builds awareness of key terms, responsibilities, and common pitfalls that new professionals must recognize before stepping onto a jobsite.

Creating a Positive Safety Culture - Presented by Jeff Wolfla, BSBD Group
This presentation explores how safety requirements appear in construction contracts and why they matter beyond compliance. Attendees will learn what meaningful safety engagement looks like in the field, how it influences project success, and why strong safety culture reduces both risk and liability.

The True Cost of a Workers’ Compensation Claim - Presented by Tai Jenkins, Texas Mutual
Through real-world examples, this session illustrates the financial and operational impact of employee injuries. Participants will learn why timely return-to-work programs, doctor-authorized releases, and offering modified duties play a critical role in controlling workers’ compensation costs and protecting long-term insurance performance.
